On July 16, Eastern Time, Trump spoke at the White House and said he plans to send notices to over 150 countries about the new tariffs the US will be applying. He called it a "major trade deal," which really just means sending out letters that explain the tariff rates. "We’ll send notices to more than 150 countries, and each one will know exactly what the tariffs are," he said. "Every country that gets these notices will be treated the same way."

Nations getting tariff notices aren't big players and don’t have much trade going on.
Talking to reporters at Andrews Air Force Base on the 15th, Trump mentioned, "We might put a standard tariff on these smaller countries." He said it could be something a bit over 10 percent on products from around 100 nations.
U.S. Commerce Secretary Lutnick said Tuesday night that the countries hit by the tariffs Trump mentioned would mainly be those in Africa and the Caribbean. Since trade with these places is usually pretty small, they probably won't have much impact on Trump's goal of cutting down trade gaps with other countries.

U.S. and India Edging Closer to a Deal
Trump posted on Truth Social saying the U.S. plans to add a 19% tax on all goods imported from Indonesia. At the same time, U.S. exports to Indonesia will be duty-free and won't face any extra barriers. That 19% rate is actually the lowest among more than 20 U.S. trading partners who recently received similar notices from Trump. Interestingly, Indonesia is the first country to agree to lower its tariffs after hearing about the proposed tax.

In the first set of tariff notices issued by Trump, 14 countries—including Japan and South Korea—are set to face tariffs between 25% and 40%. Indonesia, in particular, will be hit with a 32% tariff. The second set of notices targets eight countries: Brunei, Algeria, Moldova, Iraq, the Philippines, Libya, and Brazil. Among these, Brazil will see a 50% tariff, which is the highest level announced so far since the new reciprocal tariffs were introduced.
Trump said that starting August 1, there will be a 35% tariff on goods coming in from Canada. For countries that haven't been notified yet, a flat rate of 15% or 20% will be applied. Imports from the European Union will face a 30% tariff, and Mexico will also get a 30% tariff.
