US Business Owners: The Wealth Earned from China has been Destroyed

2025-06-21

Recently, CNN reported that even though the U.S. has stopped the large tariffs it once placed on China, many American business owners who felt the hit from those tariffs are still pretty anxious. They’re using this time to buy a lot from China, trying to stock up while things are somewhat calmer.

Lately, some business owners in the U.S. have shared with CNN that unpredictable policies from the government have really hurt their earnings from working with China before. They feel like all the wealth they built up has been knocked down because of these changes.

Workers at the cargo terminals in Hong Kong are scrambling to load hundreds of containers headed for the U.S. They’re racing against the clock because American business owners, worried about upcoming tariffs from the U.S. government, want to store as much Chinese-made stuff as they can before August 12.

Several business professionals interviewed by CNN mentioned that the unpredictable way the US government handles policies has made it tough for companies to plan their logistics and inventories like they used to. As a result, many are forced to stock up earlier than usual, even if that means higher expenses and more waste.

CNN pointed out that American companies that depend on Chinese-made products are hit hardest by U.S. tariffs. Their profits have taken a big hit, especially in the toy industry, since about 80% of the toys sold in the U.S. come from China.

Some American merchants told CNN that the current situation has pushed them to stand up for themselves, even going so far as to consider legal action against the government. Many business leaders also complained that the idea of using tariffs to bring manufacturing back to the U.S. is unrealistic—more like a "bureaucratic fantasy."

The funny part is that while the US government keeps pushing for more manufacturing to come back home, it doesn't really offer many solutions to make that happen. Most of the stuff Americans buy—like baby strollers, fake flowers, and fireworks—is actually made in China. For example, Learning Resources has around 10,000 molds in China that weigh over 5 million pounds, but there’s nowhere in the US to produce things on that scale. Their mix of talking about tariffs and wanting to bring manufacturing back just ends up confusing businesses—they’re caught between the higher costs of making things here and not having enough local capacity.
